Accounting for I.T.

Benedict College Junior, Je’Nae arrived from the Bahamas three weeks before starting her first semester at Benedict College. Je’Nae says that, “As an accounting major, everything is on a computer.” Last summer she worked as a Junior Auditor at Deloitte & Touche, a world-wide company which provides audit, consulting, financial advisory, risk management, tax and related services to select clients. On the job, she quickly learned that one must be agile in the accounting world; if she wanted to work at different accounting firms she would need to not only understand their system, but learn the foundations of databases. “Coming into this program, it is beneficial for me because I am able to gain the knowledge and skills, which are transferable among different agencies. I chose to become a Coursepower Ambassador so I can speak to others about what the program can do for us as non-IT majors. I also wanted the soft skills experience like speaking in front of my peers and other groups.” When Ja’Nae is not studying she is on the volleyball court representing the Tigers.
