Engaging Students and Teachers in 21st Century Technology

Robotics Competitions: The Regional Autonomous Robotics Circuit (RARC)

NICERCThe Regional Autonomous Robotics Circuit (RARC) is a series of three robotics competitions for students in grades three through twelve developed by the Cyber Innovation Center. The competitions build upon one another and allow students to showcase their STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and cyber skills by competing against other students in their division (elementary, middle and high school) in a series of STEM and liberal arts challenges.

RARC teams consist of three to six students from the same division (elementary, middle, or high school). The minimal RARC registration fees allow schools/organizations to send one or multiple teams to the competitions so that numerous students can benefit from this informal learning opportunity. Schools wishing to participate in RARC can build a robotics club in which students learn the robot platform and the cyber, STEM, and 21st century skills necessary to be successful at the competitions. In addition to robotics clubs, schools can integrate RARC lessons into existing STEM classes.

The competitions are designed for the LEGO® Mindstorms® (NXT or EV3) platform for the elementary and middle school divisions, while the high school division uses the ParallaxTM Boe-Bot platform.

RARC competitions are ideal for the beginner. These events are a fun and effective way to introduce ALL students to robotics. Any interested student should join a team and join the fun!

Registration is $50 per team
Competition Date: April 29, 2017
Location: Benedict College, David H. Swinton Campus Center, 1600 Harden St, Columbia, SC

Training Opportunities

Robotics Fundamentals Workshop

The Robotics Fundamentals workshop will introduce students to the exciting world of robotics and teach them the skills they need to program their robots to perform specific functions. Whether or not a student chooses to join an organized robotics team, this workshop will grow his or her technical abilities and self-confidence. Registration is $25 per person.

Robotics Team Leader Training

Training workshops are available to RARC team leaders. These are designed to help team leaders equip their students to excel in RARC competitions. We cover practice exercises that mirror competition exercises. These workshops are ideal for both new and experienced robotics team leaders. Check the Events calendar for scheduled workshops. Registration is $25 per person.
